Professor Roger Webster- Visiting Cornet Tutor and Clinician

Professor Roger Webster is a tutor in cornet, trumpet and performance psychology at the Royal Northern College of Music. As a trumpet and cornet player, Roger appears regularly with many of the UK’s top brass bands and orchestras, plus the Alliance Brass Ensemble featuring top professionals. As a principal player, he has spent 10 years with Black Dyke, 7 with CWS Glasgow, 4 with Grimethorpe and a short spell at Brighouse & Rastrick. Alongside these commitments, Roger has been active as a soloist, visiting over 25 Countries and performing in many of the World’s most prestigious concert halls. For many years, as well as playing in our top brass bands, Roger worked with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra performing and recording some of the great orchestral repertoire.

In addition to his performance career, Roger conducts research in the area of psychotherapy, with special relevance to the needs of musicians. He lectures and holds consultations in areas of psychology specialising in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, and has been particularly involved with the treatment of dystonias and musical stammers (yips, dartitis etc.), as well as the usual performance anxiety issues.

His book Websters PPP has received worldwide critical acclaim and is available in English and German with further versions in French and Japanese planned. Roger is an endorsee for Besson Musical Instruments and has been actively involved in the development of new products since 1988. He also works alongside specialists in nutrition and with experts in health psychology and psychological medicine in the development and production of health supplements formulated to combat performance anxiety.
