This pathway is open to anyone, regardless of conducting experience. Initially there will be a full day of classroom and rehearsal sessions (with the tutor ensemble), covering all aspects of conducting, including:
- baton technique
- study of some of the great masters
- score reading
- rehearsal technique
- people management
- artistic vision.
Then, on every day of your week with us there will be opportunities to observe Philip’s rehearsals, conduct the delegate’s bands with feedback from Philip, and a regular daily group tutorial with your fellow conducting students and further input from Philip.
During the final concert you will have the opportunity to introduce and conduct a piece with one of the delegate’s bands of 60 people on stage in the Routh Hall at Bromsgrove School.
Philip Harper says: “I am passionate about developing and nurturing banding leadership talent, and I’m delighted to be able to offer this pathway. We have five places available, and we warmly invite applications from all genders. Applications will be by video and depend more on your potential leadership qualities than on any conducting experience, so if you think this could be you – or even if you don’t know yet – we’d love to hear from you!”
To apply, produce a short video, telling us all about yourself. Phone video is fine, We aren’t assessing video editing skills, so don’t worry about how it looks or sounds. It’s important that the video is no longer than 5 minutes, or less than 30MB, whichever limit you reach first! Send that to , with ‘Conducting Pathway‘ in the subject line.
Then, download and complete the enrolment form.
The deadline for applications is Friday, February 28th, 2025. Queries will be handled using the above email address.
