Coco Chan – Percussion

Coco grew up in a musical household and tried a few different instruments before first picking up a pair of drum sticks, aged 8. She found an instant affinity with the instrument, and became a proficient drum kit and tuned percussion player under the tutelage of Sam Gerard.

Coco played with many Gloucestershire-based ensembles through her teens, including a stint at Cheltenham Youth Brass and three years as principal percussionist of the Gloucestershire Youth Orchestra, before taking up a place to study pharmacology with a vice-chancellor’s music scholarship at the University of Bristol. Here she enjoyed a busy performance schedule with the University’s Symphony Orchestra, New Music Ensemble and Chamber Choir, and participated in her first brass band contest at UniBrass in 2015.

Coco joined Flowers Band in the summer of 2019, and has thoroughly enjoyed being part of the band’s success at the West of England, Butlin’s Mineworks and French Open Championships, as well as multiple top 5 placings at the ‘majors’. She has also made guest appearances at the European Championships in Birmingham and Palanga.

Away from banding, Coco works in the civil service supporting refugees from Ukraine. She is also an accomplished pianist and singer.
