Health & Safety a high priority at EIBBSS
The Elgar International Brass Band Summer School (EIBBSS) has taken steps to enhance its already comprehensive Health & Safety procedures with the addition of a portable Defibrillator for all events under the EIBBSS umbrella.
From lessons learnt during the Covid pandemic, the organisation has already appointed a professional Health & Safety advisor who oversaw the 2021 EIBBSS course and continues in this role for 2022 and beyond.
Commented Carole Crompton, Course Director: “From 2021 we felt we needed to provide our delegates with extra support in the guise of Mark Spotswood, a qualified H&S Officer”.
Mark’s responsibilities will continue to be to monitor Covid security and safe-guarding issues but having been aware of the collapse of a player at the Whit Friday marches it was considered good practice for the summer school to have its own dedicated Defibrillator to be used in the event of emergencies without the need to rely on others nearby.
Carole responded: “The defibrillator has been kindly supplied as part of the sponsorship package by Ronnie Tennant of Band Supplies (Scotland) and we must thank Ronnie for his kindness and forethought in enabling the delegates to have the benefit of such an important item of equipment”
Ronnie Tennant commented “I have been very recently touched by the sudden passing of a friend and banding colleague and was keen to support this initiative when Carole approached Band Supplies” The health and safety of our banding friends and colleagues is of utmost importance”.
The EIBBSS commences on Sunday 24th July to Friday 29th July 2022 at Malvern College, Worcestershire.
